Silver Lake Residence

Objective

• This project reimagines a 1920s Silver Lake home through a thoughtful balance of mid-century modern and Mediterranean influences, creating a home that feels both refined and deeply lived-in. Designed for a growing family, the first-floor transformation focuses on three key objectives: establishing a speakeasy-inspired living space for gathering and entertaining, integrating a dedicated home office nook for everyday productivity, and introducing functional, family-friendly solutions that support the home's evolving needs. The result is a layered, character-rich environment that honors the home's architectural roots while accommodating modern life.
  

Design

• The design draws from mid-century modern principles and Japandi influences, combining natural materials, clean-lined millwork, and restrained detailing throughout. Custom storage solutions maximize usability in compact areas, while architectural transitions subtly distinguish communal gathering spaces from more intimate rooms.
  
  The family room was transformed into a moody, lounge-inspired retreat centered around a custom media wall and layered lighting, creating a natural connection to the outdoor entertaining area. A built-in office nook introduces a dedicated workspace without disrupting the home's flow, while the primary bedroom and nursery share a calming palette of walnut, white oak, linen, and soft textiles. Particular attention was given to the nursery and laundry nook, where practical storage and thoughtful organization support the evolving needs of family life.
  

Execution

• Agathus Studios oversaw the installation and styling of the home, carefully integrating existing furnishings with newly sourced pieces to create a collected and cohesive environment. Layered textiles, vintage objects, sculptural lighting, handmade ceramics, and personal ephemera add depth and character throughout. Custom millwork, elevated storage solutions, and carefully curated styling moments reinforce the home's balance of functionality, craftsmanship, and lived-in warmth.
